Obsidian is a naturally occurring volcanic glass that forms when lava cools so rapidly that minerals have no time to crystallise.

It is an exceptionally hard stone, distinguished by its deep black colour.

Snowflake Obsidian is a slightly different "version" of this mineral — as the lava cooled, another mineral called "Phenocryst" was incorporated into it. It is precisely this mineral that creates the snowflake-like patterns from which Snowflake Obsidian takes its name.
