Jasper is one of those minerals that expresses itself in a remarkable range of colours and varieties. It is a type of chalcedony and/or quartz combined with other mineral phases.

Ocean Jasper is also known by the name "Orbicular Jasper." It is one of the rarer forms of Jasper, distinguished by its circular patterns and appearing in shades of brown, green, blue, yellow, white, pink, red, or grey.

This mineral was first mentioned in 1922, though the location of the deposit was never found due to its extreme inaccessibility. Ocean Jasper has in fact been discovered at only one single location, and mining was only possible at low tide.

Since 2006, this stone has no longer been mined, as the deposit has been exhausted.
