One of Labradorite's most famous legends tells the story of the beautiful colors "trapped" within this stone. Ancient lore says that the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis were long imprisoned in the stones along the coast of Labrador, Canada. One day, an Inuit warrior came upon these captured lights and struck the stone with his spear. This action freed the Northern Lights, but some of their light and energy remained forever within the stones.

Labradorite was then named after this very coastline.
