Garnet is a group of silicate minerals. The crystal has been known since the Bronze Age — even then they were used as "talismans".

The word "garnet" evolved from the word "gernet" in the 14th century and means "dark red." Garnet most commonly appears in a distinctly deep red colour, which can sometimes make the crystal look almost black at first glance.

Over the years it has been used for many different purposes — from Garnet jewellery in the time of the Romans to garnet sand used for grinding and polishing.
