Copal is a relatively young, partially fossilised tree resin, often referred to as "young amber". While amber is millions of years old, Copal is considerably younger, typically a few hundred thousand years old. It essentially represents an intermediate stage between fresh resin and fully polymerised amber.

Its colour ranges from white and yellow to orange, and it frequently contains preserved insects and plant matter.

Our pieces of Copal come from Madagascar and carry tiny insects trapped within them.
