Amethyst is a beautiful violet variety of the Quartz crystal, and its purple hue comes from natural irradiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name comes from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed the stone would protect its wearer from intoxication when drinking wine. Today, we use it for entirely different purposes.
