Its name comes from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone protected its wearer from the effects of drinking wine. Today, however, we use it for entirely different purposes.

Blue Spinel is a rare crystal that owes its beautiful blue colour to cobalt ions trapped within the crystal's structure.
