Amethyst is a beautiful violet variety of the widely beloved Quartz crystal. Its purple colour forms through natural irradiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name comes from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone would protect its wearer from the effects of too much wine. Today, of course, we use it for entirely different purposes.
