Amethyst is a beautiful purple version of the widely known Quartz crystal. The purple colour forms through natural irradiation, traces of iron and titanium, or the presence of other elements.

Its name comes from the Greek αμεθυστoς (amethystos). The Greeks believed that the stone would protect its wearer from intoxication when drinking wine. Today, however, we use it for entirely different purposes.
